Templeton Primary School is aware of community expectations for students
with disabilities and impairments and their unique educational needs as members
of society.
The school recognises that the development and implementation of learning
programs which allow children with disabilities and impairments to learn and
be taught requires active and co-operative partnership between school, parents
and students.
Templeton Primary School is committed to providing all students, including
students with disabilities and impairments, with high quality educational
opportunities. The school relies on adequate and on-going financial resources
from DET's program of Disabilites and Impairments to achieve this aim. School
Council undertakes to support the school community in its efforts to access
this essential funding.
School Council recognises that the safety of all children and the right
of all children to learn without interference, are of paramount importance.
The school will implement all regulations and processes, which are established
by DET as they relate to the Disabilities and Impairment Program.
Aims:
To provide all students with learning opportunities that cater for their
individual needs.
To ensure that those students who attract Disabilities and Impairments funding
have programs tailored to meet their special requirements.
Implementation
The Principal or nominee of the Principal shall co-ordinate and oversee
the enrolment of students with disabilities and impairments and the implementation
of the program.
Staff members and parents will be informed of the current DET policy and
procedures in regard to the Disabilities and Impairments Program.
Regular Program Support Group Meetings will be conducted involving parents,
an appropriate parent nominee, program co-ordinator and relevant staff. (class
teacher, aide, guidance officer, speech therapist, occupational therapist,
OSH Co-ordinator etc.)
At the Program Support Group Meetings student progress and the learning
program will be considered and goals established along with the most appropriate
form of report.
The school will support staff to enable them to access appropriate professional
development opportunities.
The school will encourage the acceptance and support of students with disabilities
and impairments by members of the whole school community.
Evaluation:·
This policy will be reviewed as part of the school's three-year review cycle.
Each Parent Support Group will evaluate the progress and that of each student
and provide a written report including recommendations to the Principal at the
end of each school year.
